Bud Foust
August 3, 1954 - July 29, 2023
Bud E. Foust, 68 years old, was born on August 3, 1954, in Schuyler, NE to Henry N. and Irene M. (Heitz). He was born on his mom's 30th birthday. He went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on July 29, 2023 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Bud was baptized on August 22, 1954 at St. Mary's Church, Linwood, NE. His aunt and uncle Rita & Don Huismann served as his godparents. He was confirmed on March 24, 1963 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Fremont, NE. He took instructions and became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hooper, NE on July 25, 1975. He became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hooper in 1986.
He was brought up on a farm south of Hooper and attended District 88 school through the eighth grade. He graduated from Logan View Jr./Sr. High in 1972 where he loved playing football. He worked for Art and Lyle Bang on their farms starting in the 8th grade. He began work at Valmont Industries in November of 1972, retiring 47 years later, in January of 2020.
Bud & Joyce Denison were married on June 21, 1974. To this union they were blessed with three children: Brenda, Joseph and Bradley.
They bought their first home (and still is) in 1974 with a very large garage which was the selling point for Bud. He loved being in that garage, working on cars, mowers or anything that needed fixing. In that garage, he would tackle any new project he could come up with, and it was a place you could find him merely contemplating life. He always said he was a ''jack of all trades, master of none,'' but his family knew differently; he could always figure things out. The grandkids felt like ''big stuff'' when they could be in that garage.
Bud had several part-time jobs during his lifetime, including mowing and snow-blowing for Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. After recovering from his first back surgery in 1999, Bud felt the need to have something to fall back on just in case. He decided to perfect his skills, and he attended classes for small engine repair. After receiving a special certification, he also began a small business, Bud's Small Engine Tune-Up and Repair. These skills served him as he also worked on small engines at ACE Hardware in Fremont. After flipping a house in 2002, he was able to fulfill a dream he always had of owning storage units. In 2011, he purchased the old Great Plains Supply Co. in Oakland, NE and after many, many hours of cleaning and building (with lots of help from his family), Foust Storage opened December 15, 2013. Due to health reasons, they were sold March of this year. Although racoon hunting was once his passion, deer hunting with his sons and grandsons had become his favorite fall activity behind watching his grandchildren participate in all sports and concerts all year long.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law William (Bill) & Lola Denison, nephew Jason Dreith and brother-in-law, Larry Hernandez. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 49 years, his daughter, Brenda (Chris) Gale of Neligh, sons Joe (April) of Oakland and Brad (Shannon) of Arlington, and his ten grandchildren, Collin, Bria and Carissa Gale; Alex, Chance, Marcus and William Foust and Isaac, Kaden and Karson Bud Foust, siblings Mary Hernandez of Lincoln, Anne (Robert) Vaught of Duncan, John (Karla) Foust of Fremont, and Marvin Foust of Fremont, sister-in-law Carol (Tom) Karlin of Beatrice, brother-in-law Bob (Donna) Denison of Fremont, Dan (Terri) Denison of Arkansas and several nephews and nieces.
There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends and family at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 3, which would have been his 69th birthday. The Rev. Casey Lieneman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Arlo Strive at Arlington High School, Logan View Public Schools Shop Program or Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.
