Pamela Sue Tanous

Pamela Sue Tanous (nee Starr) entered her eternal glory surrounded by loved ones on Monday, June 19, 2023.
Pamela was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 27, 1942. She graduated from the Creighton Memorial St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1964 and married radiologist Dr. Jerome Tanous the same year. In her later years, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Sociology at Buena Vista College empowering her to deepen her connections with those most in need.
Pamela was a devoted mother, homemaker, community organizer, and lifelong supporter of the arts. Her progressive values and commitment to social justice inspired her to become a member of the Council Bluffs Service League, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Chanticleer Theater Advisory Committee, the Mercy Hospital Guild, and in her later years participated in independent philanthropy advocating for the unhoused. She was a longtime member of the Blues Society of Omaha and avid supporter of the local music scene. For several years, she owned and operated Return to Willoughby, an antiques store in downtown Council Bluffs.
Her surviving family includes her daughter Elizabeth Tanous-Tomonelli, son-in-law Ralph Tomonelli, daughter Jennifer Tanous, and granddaughter Virginia Gallner. She was predeceased by husband Dr. Jerome Tanous and son David Matthew Tanous. She entered eternal glory surrounded by her loved ones and the caring hospice team from Methodist Hospital.
Any memorials made in Pamela's name can be donated to MICAH House, New Visions Homeless Services (MOHM's Place), and Catholic Charities Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program (Phoenix House) in Council Bluffs.
