Larry Glen Gaeth, age 82, of Arlington Died Monday, May 8th, 2023, at home.
Larry was born on December 10th, 1940, to Delbert and Dorothy (Searl) Gaeth on the family farm in Fremont. He grew up in Fremont and attended Northside Grade School and Fremont Sr. High School, graduating in 1958. He married Dorothy Ann Plugge in 1963, and they had two children, a daughter, Jamie (Scott) Girmus and son Kelly (Michelle) Gaeth. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Following graduation, Larry served in the Army Reserves and then went work for Peter Kiewit Construction in Omaha, then for Butler Construction, operating heavy equipment and building missile bases. Later, he worked with his brother Don Gaeth who operated Wayne Feeds and co-managed the family's hog operation north of Fremont until the family sold the farm. He then became the manager of the Nickerson Co-op and facilitated mergers with Hooper and Snyder to form Elkhorn Valley Cooperative. In 1995 he went on to build a consulting business merging co-ops in the Nebraska/Iowa area. He and Dort then built a home in Arlington, and he wrapped up his working years at Nitz Auctions enjoying online work and developing web pages. Larry served on the ESU #2 Board in Fremont and on the Fremont City Council, serving as president of the city council on his final term. He was also active in church life. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. His family was his highest priority and he and Dort put on thousands of miles driving to school programs, various sporting events, concerts and other activities for their grandchildren, where he was rarely seen without a camera.
They have been blessed with six grandchildren, Haley (Mike) Glaser, Sydney and Cooper Girmus, Alexandra, Mikaela and Eli Gaeth, and one great grandson, Tate Glaser.
Larry is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandson, his brothers David(Sara) Gaeth and Ken(Barb) Gaeth, sisters-in-law Donna Lee (Lloyd)Petersen, Anita (Red) Misfeldt and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don, sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Eugene Bang and brother-in-law, Wally Plugge.
The funeral will be 10:30am, Monday, May 15, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church (2102 N. County Rd. 26) east of Fremont. Lunch will follow the service and burial in Ridge Cemetery will follow the lunch. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran or the Arlington Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Visitation will be Sunday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with the family from 2pm to 5pm.
