Dorothy A. Carson
September 13, 1935 - March 1, 2019
Dorothy A. Carson, 83, of Fremont, Nebraska went home to be with the Lord on the morning of March 1, 2019. She passed away due to complications of a stroke she suffered hours earlier. Dorothy had been a resident at Dunklau Gardens since November 2018.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, March 4, 2019, 1pm at Peace Lutheran Church east of Fremont. Visitation will be from noon until the service at the church. Rev. Sean Tyler will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church.
Dorothy was the fourth child born to Florence (Clouse) and Earl Kephart in Ida Grove, Iowa on September 13, 1935. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1954, where she enjoyed singing in the chorus and participated in many activities. The relationships developed in her hometown remained an important part of her life and she made several trips "home" each year to reconnect with family and friends.
Her rural upbringing gave her a love for the outdoors, gardening, and animals (especially dogs). Since her father was a skilled carpenter, she also learned construction skills at a young age and enjoyed do-it-yourself projects. Thanks to her mother, Dorothy became an excellent cook and loved to share her baked goods with family and friends.
Seeking job opportunities as a bookkeeper, Dorothy moved to Fremont in 1960. With her great attention to detail, she worked in that capacity for an optometrist and for a bank until her retirement. She married the love of her life, Howard L. Carson, on September 29, 1973 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. They were very active in the church, community, and spent countless hours together fishing, including annual trips to Leech Lake in Minnesota. Howard was a decorated World War II veteran, and they shared in many VFW and Lion's Club activities together.
Sadly, Howard passed away May 28, 1998. As much as she missed him, Dorothy continued to be a vibrant part of the community and as a "people-person" enjoyed spending time with everyone, especially her Peace Lutheran Church Family. She was known for her lighthearted and teasing sense of humor while her faith in Jesus Christ kept her strong through the challenges of life.
Dorothy is survived by Howard's daughter, Cathy (Tim) Mullen of Fremont, their children Kate and John, her sister Carol Odgaard of Ida Grove, her sisters-in-law Norma Kephart of Concord, CA and Elsie Kephart of Bertha, MN, six nieces and two nephews, plus extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Arnold Kephart and George Kephart and her brother-in-law Tom Odgaard.
Dorothy's family would like to extend special thanks to her Dunklau Gardens "family" and special Fremont friends who gave such amazing and tender loving care to her. We are forever grateful for your kindness. May the Lord bless each one of you as you have ministered to her.
