Elaine M. Kelberlau
November 9, 1927 - April 23, 2018
Elaine M. Kelberlau, age 90 of Scribner Died Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Hooper Care Center
Elaine was born Nov. 9, 1927 at home, on a farm near Scribner, NE to William H. and Edna (Havekost) Westphalen. She was baptized, confirmed, and later married at the same church; St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church.
Raised on the family farm, Elaine attended school districts 12 and 82, and then graduated from Scribner High School. After high school, she worked various jobs in Scribner.
On February, 15, 1948 she married Wallace Kelberlau. They spent their first 3 years working for a farmer east of Winslow. In 1951 they moved to Scribner and started farming on their own. Expanding their farmer dreams in 1958, they moved to Dodge and farmed for the next 29 years before returning to Scribner to retire at their current home next to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
As a true farmer's wife, she grew a large garden, raised her own chickens, milked the cows and loved to cook big family dinners. Her gravy and apple pies were favorites of all who attended. She enjoyed her flowers and always had several entries in the county fair.
Elaine was a member of St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church, former member of the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dodge County Extension Club, and Scribner/Dodge Community Choir.
