Lois A. Bargar, age 88 of Fremont, Nebraska passed away at home surrounded by family on June 25, 2018.
Lois was born in Yutan, Nebraska on July 3, 1929 to Bernice (Gertz) and Hans Schulz. She graduated from Valley High School and moved to Omaha where she worked at Stockyards Bank and Mutual of Omaha.

Lois married Harlan (Joe) Bargar in 1948, and together they had three children, Chris, Joseph C., and Jeff. In 1954 they moved to Fremont where she worked in retail for many years at Philips and most recently at JC Penney.
She was a consummate care giver to friends and family and loved by all.
Lois went against the convention of the time to raise her son Joe at home instead of sending him to a state facility and spent her life as a strong advocate for those afflicted with Down Syndrome and other developmental disabilities. She was one of the founders of the Fremont Opportunity Center.
Lois is survived by daughter Chris and her husband Marvin Franke of Omaha; son Jeff and his wife Donna Bargar of Lincoln; grandson Jason Franke of Fremont; granddaughter Jessie and her husband Jeremy Carr of Omaha; grandchildren Joshua and Emily Bargar of Lincoln; six great grandchildren, Taylor Franke McNair, Kortlan, Brendan and Elisabeth Franke, and Henry and Lucy Carr of Omaha; one great-great granddaughter Madylan McNair; and brother in law Bill Barger of Ft. Calhoun. She was preceded in death by husband Joe; son Joseph C.; mother and father Hans and Bernice Schulz; and brothers Melverne and Charles Schulz.

The funeral will be Friday at 2pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Mark Weber will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family.

  1. William J. Smith
Chris, Jeff and families, please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your mother.
She was Mom's dearest friend and my 2nd mother on Hancock Street. In adult life she was our friend and a co-worker with my wife. No matter what the circumstances she was always there to celebrate the good and to help shoulder the bad.
She was a amazing woman and inspired my people by the way she cared for Joey. She will be sorely missed, her love, her compassion, her friendship and even her tell it like it is attitude.
I am proud to have known her and to have her as a friend.
You all are in my thoughts and in my prayers. The whole family that has had her in their life for many years send their condolences.
    Bill

So sad for your loss. What a sweet and kind lady. Always enjoyed our conversations. She was what you saw - genuine, down-to-earth, and loved her family above all. Know she is watching over all of you.
