Melvin A. Meier, 82, of Fremont,
died Saturday in Edinburg, Texas

He was born May 10, 1936 in Hooper, Nebraska to Morris and Viola (Jorgensen) Meier. During his early years his family lived in several different communities. Mel graduated from Hooper High School, then served in the United States Air Force. Following military service he enrolled in a trade school to study auto body repair. A little later he went to work for the Fremont Dept. of Utilities, retiring after 36 years as a line foreman.

Mel was married in 1963 to Shirley Durham, and she passed away in 1995. On May 2, 1998, Mel was married to Kay Dvorak Karr. Fremont has been their home. Mel and Kay traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states, parts of Canada, Hawaii, and several European countries. They have spent the last 20 winters in Texas.

Mel was a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200 and the Fremont Camping Club and American Legion Post.

8 grandchilden and 1great granddaughter
sister Marilyn Hoetken, Austin, Tex.
He was preceded by his first wife Shirley, sister Lillian, and step-son Robert Karr.

The funeral service will be 10 AM Saturday (June 2nd) at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by Fremont Honor Guard (American Legion Post 20 & VFW Post 854). Visitation will be on Friday 2 to 8 PM with the family from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials may be directed to the family for distribution.
