Carol was born in West Point, Nebraska to Delwin and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Haeffelin on August 17, 1934. She grew up and graduated from high school in West Point.

On November 10, 1954, Carol was married to Robert 'Bob' Wackel. They lived first in West Point, then moved to Fremont, then to Arlington, and back to Fremont in 1968. She was a homemaker and her husband was employed by Hormel's.

Carol was interested in various sports, but especially the Cornhuskers and her grandchildren's sporting events.
She was a meticulous housekeeper and a gardener.

Carol was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Carol was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, and her parents.

A memorial service will be on Wednesday (May 29, 2013) at 10:30 AM in the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charlie Axness. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church. There is no public visitation, but the register book can be signed at the Ludvigsen Mortuary on Tuesday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
