LaVerne was born in Fremont to Conrad and Lillie Carlson. Except for the last 4 months, LaVerne lived on her home place her entire life. She is a Fremont High graduate and attended Midland College. She married Leslie Hilgenkamp, August 1, 1948 at Marietta Presbyterian Church. Together they farmed, raised hogs and sheep. She loved and cared for her two sons Daniel (Linda) of Searcy, Arkansas and David (Andrea) of Colon, NE.
LaVerne loved taking care of her boys and all of her extended family that meant so much to her. She enjoyed playing the organ, cooking for her family and being a grandma.
As an animal lover, LaVerne always had a soft heart for any animal that would come on the place. Cats knew that LaVerne would always have warm milk for them.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and was active in the church's Ladies Aid Society. She was a charter member of the Colon Ladies Auxiliary Bartek Carlson Post #265. The post was named after her brother Cecil Carlson, one of the first casualties of WWII from Saunders County.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leslie (2009), her parents and brother Cecil.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Daniel (Linda) Hilgenkamp of Searcy, Arkansas and David (Andrea) Hilgenkamp of Colon, NE., four grandsons, Bradley (Amber) Hilgenkamp of Dyersburg, Arkansas, Matthew Hilgenkamp of Lincoln, NE, Blake Hilgenkamp of Hartsfield, Virginia and Andrew Hilgenkamp of Omaha, NE. and 1 great grandson Zaiden Hilgenkamp.
