He was born June 19, 1932 in Great Falls, Montana to Pastor G. T. and Helen Monson. In 1955, he married Mary Rudd from St. Charles, IL. Their children are Diane, Timothy, Philip and Stephen.

Daniel graduated from Nutana High School and University of Saskatoon (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) and Augustana Lutheran Seminary (Rock Island, IL). He interned at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Chicago, IL) and was ordained in 1957 in Omaha. He completed further studies at Lutheran School of Theology Chicago (LSTC). He served as Senior Pastor in Pine City, MN, Westminster, CA, Temple City, CA, Wahoo, NE, Wayne, NE, Aurora, CO and Cheyenne, WY. He was an interim minister in Colorado and at Tekamah, Wakefield, Wausa, Albion, Homer and Hubbard in Nebraska.

Daniel was co-director and lobbyist with his wife, Mary, of the Wyoming Church Coalition serving 13 Christian denominations and the Jewish community. Daniel was a Master Gardener, member of the Lions Club and served on boards for church, education and community. He was Deputy Sheriff Chaplain and hospital chaplain. He loved singing with the Chicago Men's Chorus, Seminary Chorus, Capital Chorale in WY, Mastersingers in Nebraska and the Sinai Lutheran Choir. In Wayne, he participated in community theatre where played the lead role in "South Pacific" and major roles in other musicals. He also performed intermission numbers at the Cheyenne Opera House and for the old opera house in Fremont.

Survivors include: wife, Mary; children, Diane (Keith) Paseka of Fremont, Tim (Traci) Monson of Bloomington, IL, Philip of Fremont, and Stephen (Andrea) Monson of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren, Jason Paseka, Bryan Paseka, Sara (Brock) Ellis, Radley Monson, Maura Monson, Janitzi (Trey) Furniss, and Adrian Torres Rodriguez; great grandchildren, Ness, Ansleigh and Cyra; and sister, Alice Shaffer.

Services for Pastor Daniel Monson will be at Sinai Lutheran Church, 9th and Pebble, Fremont, at 11 am, Thursday, October 23. Visitation will be at Ludvigsen's Mortuary from 5 to 7 pm, Wednesday, October 22. A private family committal will be held at Ridge Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials are designated for the chaplain program at Midland University, Sinai Lutheran Organ Fund, and LSTC.
