Oren R. Paulson

Oren R. Paulson age 94, of Fremont;
died Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha.

Oren was born December 17, 1919 in Fremont to Carl and Mary (Richards) Paulson. He grew up in Fremont, graduating from high school in 1938.

In January of 1942, Oren became an Army Air Cadet, then in August of 1942, he became a Captain in the Army Air Corps. During WWII, he was a troop transport pilot, flying in Sicily, Italy, the Middle East, Africa, and India. Upon returning to the states, he flew hospital planes. He was discharged from active duty in December of 1945, and returned to Fremont. He also served in the Air Force Reserve, retiring in 1979 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

On his return to Fremont in December of 1945, he enrolled in Midland College from which he graduated. He was a foreman with Hormel's in Fremont for 35 years, retiring in 1981.

Oren was a member of The Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained Elder and Deacon. He has sung in their choir since 1939. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, the Fremont Masonic Lodge No. 15 A.F. & A.M., Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Fremont Noon Kiwanis Club. He has been a part of the Pathfinder Chorus since 1981, and was a Lifetime Member of the Reserve Officer's Association.

Oren was married to Mary Green on November 3, 1942 at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.

granddaughter Jessica and husband Travis Armstrong of Tampa, Florida
grandson 2nd Lt. Matthew Paulson of Ft. Bragg, NC
Oren was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2004, a son Karl, and a sister Vivian Stewart.

The funeral service will be 10 AM Saturday at the Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Earl Underwood. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Offutt Air Force Base Honors Team.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Friday from 3 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 PM.
