Paul was born August 22, 1941 in Fremont to Obert and Helen (Mahel) Hartung. He was raised on the farm west of Fremont and attended BeeBe School District 63. Paul had been a member of the Saddle & Spurs 4-H Club.

He graduated from Fremont High in 1959 and served in the National Guard for 2 years. He worked at Western Electric, retiring after 36 1/2 years and then he had a part time job with Taylor & Martin Auctioneers.

Paul married Patricia Gerdes on June 29, 1974 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yutan. They resided in Yutan for several years before moving to Fremont and Lake Ventura in December 1978, where they were still living. Paul enjoyed bowling and was Bowler of the Year in 1972-73 and received many other bowling awards throughout the years. He was a Husker fan from the word GO, enjoying many season tickets to several Husker sports. His interest in old cars grew fast. His first of many old cars was a 1954 Chevy. His favorite was a 1957 black Chevy, but his red 1930 Chevy got the most conversation. He spent many hours restoring these vehicles. Other interests included serving on the church council and the church mowing crew, the lake and boating, and having a lot of company. He took great pride in caring for his lawn. Dancing was also a love of his as well as going on trips with friends. He enjoyed family gatherings and summer steak fries and Christmas.

In addition to his wife Pat, he is survived by daughter Kimberley Polen of Texas, granddaughters Brandis (Read) Cowern of Des Moines, Iowa and Kylee Polen and significant friend Rob Carlson of Fremont, 3 great grandchildren, Calvin, Genevieve, and Todd, sister-in-law Norma Hartung, nieces LeAnn Karmann, Shara Wagner, and nephew Kent Hartung, and many cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his dog 'KC' who had a special seat in the truck and in Paul's heart.

The funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yutan. Following the lunch, the committal will be in Memorial Cemetery, Fremont. Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, Monday from 3 to 7 PM with the family present 5 to 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to his church and Dodge County Humane Society.
