Jerome D. Garrison

October 29, 1937 - April 20, 2016

Jerome D. Garrison age 78 of Omaha, formerly of Fremont and Wood River,
died Wednesday April 20, 2016 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.

Jerome (Jerry) was born October 29, 1937 in Wood River Nebraska to Howard Arlo Garrison and Clara (Dibbern) Garrison. He grew up on a farm just outside of Wood River. He dropped out of school in ninth grade to work full time as a bakers apprentice. He left Wood River at seventeen when he joined the Navy.

On July 15, 1961, Jerry married Linda Nowell in Honolulu, HI. They traveled the world until 1974 when they moved to North Bend Nebraska and then Fremont. Upon their divorce in 1978 Jerry moved to another house in Fremont. Jerry and Merla (King) Yager married June 25, 1980 and lived happily in Fremont until her death Dec 15, 2008.

Jerry spent twenty years serving his country and seeing the world before retiring from the Navy in 1974 as a Chief Petty Officer. He served at multiple overseas locations, aboard multiple surface and subsurface vessels earning the Submariner Warfare Insignia or 'Dolphins'. After retiring from the Navy he worked multiple jobs including, security guard, welder, warehouseman, cabinet maker, factory worker, and maintenance man. He spent many hours creating beautiful furniture for friends and family in his workshop. Jerry loved to hunt and fish with his boys and ride his motorcycle with friends and family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Clara, his loving wife Merla, his brothers Kenneth and Roderick and Gene and sister Dolores Johnson.

daughter - Cheri Uhlik and husband Doug of Fremont, NE.
son - Kim Yager and wife Cindy of Pleasanton, NE.
son - Kerry Yager and wife Janet of Grand Island, NE.
son - Duane Garrison and wife Lori of Omaha, NE.
grandchildren - Brandon Yager, Kevin Krebs, Nathan Yager, Sara Yager, Holli Yager, Whitnee Yager, Bob Yager, Andrew Poast, Wyatt Stall, Justin Garrison, Jerome Garrison
5 great grandchildren
friends Phil and ReNae Braughton, Carol Eckwall, Erland and June Carlson all of Omaha.

The memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday (May 15, 2016) at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The committal with military honors will be 10:00am Monday May 16, 2016 at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.
