Yerger Family,
I met Matt in the 7th grade. I was one of the few junior high kids to have a teen line and Matt had access to a phone and we would talk nearly every night until 11 p.m. or mid-night. We shared so many secrets, our latest concert, a new crush, and all the other awkward junior high moments with each other. We both had a love of the group “Yes” and he bought me the 90125 cassette for my birthday and we wore that cassette out listening to it over and over again. We also both loved David Letterman and talked about the episode from the night before and would laugh until we cried on what goofy thing Letterman did the night before. One night when we were talking on the phone I had the not so brilliant idea to double pierce my right ear – I still have the scar to remind me of our friendship. Matt was such a kind, compassionate friend and such a great listener. He made me a better person just by being in his presence. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.

I knew Matt in high school, we lost touch after graduation. In later years he worked in the Zurich Insurance Company building while I was employed there; I enjoyed going down to the kitchen and speaking with him during breaks. It seemed each time we ran into each other over the years that it had only been a few days since we last spoke. I will always remember him as a wonderful spirit and friend. Many prayers of peace for him and his family.

Matt went to the same grade school as me (Northside), and I have a picture of a group of us Northside boys, at my 10th birthday slumber party, with him in it. Somehow, he found out that I was a Kiss fan, and got me their "Double Live" album, as the birthday present. Back then, my family couldn't afford many single albums, so I will always remember how thoughtful and generous getting a double album was. I listened to those albums, non-stop, for weeks on end. My mother didn't like the band, so it drove her completely nuts ;)

Shortly after, I saw his music collection, and you could tell he loved music.

After grade school, I lost touch with Matt, but always remembered the cool 80's hair styles he had, in middle and high school.

Peace be with him, his family, and good friends.

I haven't seen Matt in many years, but I have the fondest memories of roaming and playing in our neighborhood...Steve, Matt, Garrett, Chris, Rochelle, Michelle, Jennifer and Paige...my first "village". I remember that he was quiet and artistic and beautiful. As people do, we found other villages in high school and we lost touch, but I will not forget the feeling I had or the look on his face when I saw him at our 20 year class reunion. The embrace we shared was sweet and heartfelt, as if, minutes instead of years had past.

My sincerest condolences to the Yerger family; you are in my prayers.
